Wiki's & Powerpoint

Throughout class so far I have learned a lot. I didn't know too much about wiki's but now that I have taken the time to do some research on my own & use the help from others I know how to use wiki's appropriately. They are a great tool for discussions because they include the opinions of other classmates & even your teachers. I think that more teachers should use wiki's in their classrooms. They provide a lot of information that is easy for students to access. It allows them to ask questions when they are confused & they can receive feed back from fellow students along with their teacher. It keeps everyone on the same page.

Powerpoint is something I am a little more familiar with. I've used them before & have so have some of my teachers & professors. They haven't always used them in the best ways, but I used that to teach myself what the good ways to provide information were & the bad ways. Hopefully I will be able to learn even more so that when I am teacher I know what not to do too.

  1. I really only know about wiki's because my 7th grade english teacher made us use one. it's actually pretty cool. What he would do is make separate sections of the site for his different classes, and then he woudl divide that if we ever did group projects. that way, each group had their own little corner of the website to go to share ideas and research information needed for the project.

  2. I agree that some teachers don't use Powerpoints as effectively as they should. Some break all the rules: they read word for word which is really boring, they get a little crazy with their color schemes, and they put way too much information on the slide so you get completely overwhelmed and you can't process what is most important. I had a teacher who loved to use a very fancy font which was very hard for anyone to read, especially if you sat in the back of the class. He never used animation which actually would have made his Powerpoints more interesting. I guess the bottom line is it's a great tool if you use it wisely and remain conservative about using special effects and fonts.
